Grandview Medical Center offers community focused healthcare services in Jasper, TN. THE COMMUNITY
Once a year, during the last weekend of every April, Marion County hosts the National Cornbread Festival, a world famous event that attracts tens of thousands of people. Marion County has four main municipalities: Kimball, Jasper, South Pittsburg and Whitwell. Jasper serves as the county seat. South Pittsburg is currently undergoing extensive renovations to its downtown district, including the restoration of the historic Princess Theater. In nearby Whitwell, plans are underway to build a new multimillion dollar public middle school to replace the current building that also houses the internationally renowned Children’s Holocaust Project. Whitwell already has new high school and elementary school buildings. Jasper and South Pittsburg both have elementary schools just a few years old as well. South Pittsburg High School is currently building a modern, multi-million dollar gymnasium for its students and athletes. Nearby institutions of higher learning include Chattanooga State Community College, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Temple University and the University of the South.
RECREATION
Marion County is situated among an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities.
Fishermen can choose from dozens of lakes and rivers, including Nickajack Lake. Fed by the beautiful and majestic Tennessee River, its 10,300 acres feature well over 200 miles of shoreline. Hunting, hiking, canoeing, boating, camping, spelunking and hang-gliding are popular activities. Golf courses dot the area with some of the most scenic panoramas in this part of the country. For baseball fans, Chattanooga hosts a minor league team, the Lookouts, while the major league Atlanta Braves are just two hours away. Pro football fans can easily travel to Nashville to watch the Tennessee Titans or see the Falcons compete in Atlanta. For college football, the University of Tennessee Volunteers play at legendary Neyland Stadium, just up the road in Knoxville.
