Computerized Tomography or CT Scan is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat a host of medical conditions. CT Scanning involves specialized x-tray equipment with powerful computers to produce multiple images or pictures of the inside of the body. CT Scans provide greater clarity than regular x-rays.
Cosmetic Surgery is voluntary surgery that is performed for aesthetic reasons and that may help enhance a patient’s image or self-esteem.
Medical imaging is process used to create images of the human body (or parts and function thereof) for clinical purposes. At Grandview, for example, medical imaging encompasses x-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound and nuclear medicine. These images are used by physicians to diagnose, treat and prevent illnesses or injuries.
Emergency medicine is a medical specialty in which a physician receives practical training to care for patients with acute illnesses or injuries which require immediate medical attention. While not usually providing long-term or continuing care, emergency medicine physicians diagnose a variety of illnesses and undertake acute interventions to stabilize the patient. At Grandview, the Emergency Department is staffed with emergency medical professionals and is available 24-hours every day. Emergency medicine should not be substituted for general practice. By law, emergency departments may not be able to treat non-emergent medical issues.
Endoscopy means typically refers to looking inside the body for medical reasons using an endoscope, an instrument used to examine the interior of a hollow organ or cavity of the body. Unlike most other medical imaging devices, endoscopes may be inserted directly into the organ.
Otolaryngology or ENT (ear, nose and throat) is the branch of medicine that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, throat, and head and neck disorders.
Enterology is the scientific study of the intestines.
Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine whereby the digestive system and its disorders are studied. Diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract, which includes the organs from mouth to anus, along the alimentary canal, are the focus of this specialty.
General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal organs, e.g., intestines including esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts, and the thyroid gland. They also deal with diseases involving the skin, breast, and hernias.

Inpatient Surgery is any surgery where the patient will need to remain in the hospital overnight or longer after the surgery is completed. Inpatient surgery patients require nursing care and/or observation.
Intensive Care provides seriously or critically ill patients with intensive monitoring. Life or organ support provisions may also be necessary.

Laparoscopic Surgery is performed by the use of small incisions and special equipment that can help reduce pain and bleeding after surgery and contribute to a shorter recovery time. Lithotripsy is a procedure used to remove kidney stones in a patient.
Mammography is a test used to examine the human breast. The test is used to detect masses in the breast that may indicate breast cancer.
Medical/Surgical (or Med/Surg) is the department at Grandview that cares for patients who may be staying at the hospital. Med/Surg personnel may include nurses or health care professionals from several disciplines that perform a multitude of nursing and care duties within the hospital. When one thinks of a “hospital”, it is usually the Med/Surg department that comes first to mind.
Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, is a diagnostic imaging test that provides very detailed, higher contrast images of the internal structure of the body.
Nuclear Medicine is a specialty of medical imaging that uses radioactive isotopes in diagnosis and treatment of disease. With safety in use always the top priority, radioactive isotopes are combined with other chemicals or medicines. The result is administered to the patient to help localize specific organs.
Nutritional Services are services provided by a patient’s doctor and possibly a dietician to help create healthy and wholesome nutrition for the patient.
Ophthalmology is the specialty that deals with the anatomy and diseases of the eye. Ophthalmologists may often perform surgery to treat eye illnesses.
Orthopedics is the specialty involved with diagnosing and treating the musculoskeletal system. Grandview Orthopedics treats a wide assortment of injuries and diseases of the skeleton, including hand surgery.
Outpatient Diagnostics are tests that are done at the hospital, but the patient is able to go home after completion. These tests could include imaging, laboratory or other specialty tests as appropriate.
Outpatient Surgery involves minor or intermediate surgical procedures, some level of anesthesia, however the patient is able to return to home the same day the surgery was performed.
Pain Management is the specialty that deals with easing suffering and improvement in the quality of life of those living with pain.

Physical Therapy is the department of the hospital that helps patients, after aging, injury or disease, regain and restore as much movement and function as possible.

Sleep Center at Grandview specializes in helping patients who may have sleep disorders. The center is designed to be as comfortable as possible for patients who stay overnight so a sleep technician can monitor their sleep habits and record information for physicians to review for follow-up treatment and recommendations.

Urology is the medical specialty that treats disease of the urinary tract in males and females and the reproductive system in males.
Wound Care at Grandview is normally provided by the hospital’s Physical Therapy department. Wound care is the monitoring and treatment of wounds (a type of injury where the skin is torn, cut or punctured) resulting from surgery or accidents.
